Sufficient for remote working (especially with VM)

Setup took maybe 10 minutes and with a Microsoft account already set up it was easy to get through. A restart took less than 30 seconds and buttery smooth. I left it like this through all the first time updates which was a pretty long list but nothing surprising. Took about an hour with a couple of restarts and no overheating. I could feel a faint bit of warmth through the keyboard if I put my hands flat on it but the fans hadn’t picked up speed at all.
Screen looks pretty good but I want to fiddle with the HDR but it is the perfect size for on the go. Just enough that you could clip your programs side by side and not feel TOO cramped. Either I’m not sure I believe the HD 1080p, there’s some screen quality issues, or I’m spoiled by higher resolution. Thus far I’ve only played around within their settings and with their sample video and it gives me the vibe of Youtube automatically downgrading the quality of a video.
For the price and what most people will use this guy for, I don’t think it’s a huge deal unless you’re particularly fussed with an extremely clear picture.
Nice and quiet through general use, you can vaguely hear the fan but nothing major, darn near silent. This is for things like browsing webpages, changing settings, etc… I kept the laptop flat for this to force it to generate heat.
Keyboard is responsive and feels good to type on, essentially full sized with a numpad squeezed in which I am SO happy to see. They’ve even managed to fit in an extra large mouse pad with larger than usual left and right buttons which feels amazing to use.
Comes with some apps pre-installed but thankfully it immediately pops up a welcome screen with them available for you to delete.
There is this VERY cool ‘new desktop’ button on the taskbar so you can legitimately have two entirely different sets of programs up at once. Not telling you what to use it for, it’s just great…organization.
Windows S (Safe) mode is annoying and if you want to download ANYTHING that isn’t on the Windows App store you’ll have to disable it. Not the hardest thing and that does make this computer a great option for those less aware of how to safely manage their computer but the fact that it isn’t opt in is a touch frustrating.
Free month of Games Pass Ultimate if you want to try that out, ofc it comes with an automatic re-subscribe so be sure to cancel it if you don’t like it or want the cheaper option.
Honestly, all around just very impressed! You’re not getting a top of the line laptop but you’re not paying for one either. If you need something for getting work done on the go or just want something a bit more robust than a tablet you’re set! Also a fantastic find for anyone with family who isn’t quite the best at technology. While frustrating for experienced users the safe mode is perfect for folks who can get into trouble with their downloads.
Well worth the cost and I love it!

So I logged into the network and the install routine pulled critical data from the existing computer so that when I browse my links are there so of course I am thrilled at how much time and effort this avoided. really happy with this choice and the laptop was a prime day deal, a real laptop for the price of a chromebook. it runs things my chromebook could not like HP smart for scanning.

I could not even get into it to do anything, and the screen was only half the size. Return immediately

Very nice! Smooth operation! Able to use my Seagate storage drive and external Disc Drive! Plenty of storage! Able to do anything with a Disk! This opened up limitations! Love the key board and mouse pad! Fast! To power up! Super fast! response! This is my third Acer! I would have to say this one is the best! HD screen perfect!

If it were up to me, I’d never use a Windows machine. But it’s not up to me—a job I took requires a particular version of VMWare Horizon Client and doesn’t support web VMWare, so I held my nose and placed the order.
Long story short, through no fault of Acer’s, this machine in 2024 requires a factory reset after its initial setup just to turn off S Mode so you can install 3rd party software. Once you’ve jumped through Redmond’s hoops (Bring us a shrubbery! Ni!), This little machine functions reasonably well under the weight of too many stupid useless pre-installed apps and all the stock MS nagware, un-refusable Xbox Live offers, and info-widgets nobody wants or needs.
If you absolutely must have a Windows laptop (to keep a job) and you have the patience to spend 7 hours setting it up, then this machine might do.
But for God’s sake, if you don’t absolutely have to use some platform-limited software, do yourself a huge favor and get a high-spec Chromebook. Windows, in its modern form, is hot garbage compared to Chrome OS or any lightweight mainstream Linux distribution.

I decided to return it because I wanted a touch screen instead

Decent laptop for the price. Yes can be slow but is priced pretty competitively for the specs. Makes a good spare machine for the side of my work desk for checking the internet in my downtime. I really like that it has a numpad on the keyboard.
