Nice 3 hand military hack watch that supports a great cause, the Veterans Watchmakers Initiative, the special etching of troops with a clock on the backside of the watch denotes this special model. Easy to read luminous dial. Keeps time accurately, and being an automatic it gives consistent performance as long as you’re wearing it. Does hold reserve power for a day or so if you take it off. Easy to set and the band fits well. A very nice watch that performs as well as watches twice the price.

I cannot say enough about this timepiece. It has that throwback feel to the military watches so common in the 1960s through the 1980s. Watch face is crisp, clean, and easy to read. Luminescent numbers are bright and noticeable. The graphic on the underside of the watch is a beautiful touch and build that sense that you truly do possess a special watch.

I put the watch on a timegrapher everything was right on time.

The watch looks absolutely stunning. I love the design. Veteran Watchmaking Initiative version comes with nice engraving on the case back and military nylon strap that feels great. Because of black dial the timepiece is a strap-monster and will work great on almost any leather or NATO straps.
Unfortunately, the watch does not have screwdown crown which is probably the reason for only 30m of water resistance (30m for a field watch is kind of disappointing, it should be 50m, 100m would be awesome).
Also, it is a tiny little bit too thick. Partly because of the automatic movement inside, party because of highly domed cristal which could be thinner.
Nevertheless, it is my favourite watch at the moment. Definitely worth the money!

I was in the market for an automatic watch and decided to get this one. I’m very impressed. The strap didn’t fit my small wrist so I swapped that out and everything else is good so far. Very accurate, it hacks as the name implies. I love that it has hand winding in addition to the automatic movement. Great combo. I typically like the backs on automatic watches to where you can see the internals, but in this case I actually like the design of the back. I like the theme of this watch in general. I don’t mind the 30m of water resistance but I’ll probably end up getting a Bulova Mil-ship one of these days.
Comparing it to my Seiko5 SNK809, I think the Bulova is the clear winner and worth the money. The Bulova may not have a day/date display like the Seiko5, but the Bulova hacks and hand winds, the Seiko does not. That’s not a big deal to me as I can easily throw a couple pocket calendars with my prep stuff.
Speaking of prepping, this is a great prepper’s watch. Mechanical automatic movement means no worries about not being able to keep track of time in an EMP scenario. The only concern in that scenario would be forgetting to wind it and losing track of time. Just make sure to have a G-shock in a faraday cage bag along with other survival electronics like a solar USB rechargeable hub/power station, USB rechargeable batteries, electric lighters, radio, etc. so you can reference the G-shock watch when setting the time.

After spending a year with this watch, I can say I’m quite happy with it. It certainly satisfied my itch for a field watch. The fact it’s a replica of the model with some history is a bonus to any watch collector.
One thing that I noticed when I first received it, it was magnetized which have a negative effect on accuracy. Find a reputable watch repair shop and they’ll get that straighten out in no time.

Even though I work in tech, I still like an old-fashioned mechanical watch. I think this watch is attractive in its simplicity – it is easily readable and it is not busy – it is not “too much” to look at. It is not too large in circumference. It is a little thicker than I prefer but still not too bad. This watch has more of an old-fashioned, rounded look to it that I like. Maybe it is how the lugs are configured?
This watch is more accurate than some mechanical watches I have that I paid twice as much for. I found with my particular watch that it runs a few seconds a day slow when I wear it but it runs a few seconds fast if I leave it face-down overnight – it seems to balance out so overall I can go a surprising number of days – I think a week or more – before I feel like I want to reset it. And it has a “hacking” feature so it is easy to set to the second.
The watch seems rugged. I have gotten conflicting info on whether the crystal is sapphire or glass so I don’t know. I have worn it daily and I have not noticed any scratches. But my normal adventures are trips to the office or the grocery store and not, say, rock climbing. The lumen is adequate but not spectacular.
This is one of the best options you will find if you are looking for a simple, inexpensive but well-made mechanical field watch.

Great value for an automatic swatch. Alittle small for a normal wrist

I’m a big fan of “issue” watches and this is a faithful reissue of the Bulova “GI” timepiece. The look is outstanding, especially when installing a Ritche od green nato strap, imo. Yes the strap covers the VWI insignia but so does my wrist…I like supporting,in a small way, the VWI and for the money, I got a quality watch. Mine gains about 6-8 seconds a day but no worries. I’m not timing the Olympics with it. The hack feature and manual winding capability is a delightful plus! Couldn’t be more pleased with this acquisition…

This is a well made watch that looks good and keeps good time. It does gain about 10 seconds a day but that’s common for mechanical watches. Even Rolex watches gain about 5 minutes a month. The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is the watch is heavier than what I’m used to. Not the fault of the watch. Mechanical watches are heavier than battery operated watches. It’ll take a while to get used to extra weight. All in all, a fine time piece that keeps very good time and is high quality. If you want a quality watch that has 21 jewel movement and don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars more for a Swiss made watch, I highly recommend this one.
