Despite the awesome aesthetic appeal and my devil may care attitude I was apprehensive buying this watch after reading the numerous reviews saying it was just a nice “black bracelet”.
Then one day, after all consideration for this watch was lost, I was window shopping the local mall while knocking out some delicious Cinnabon and I stumbled across it. I did not a double, but a triple take to make sure I was seeing the same watch, and indeed it was. I ran inside, slapped the watch on my wrist, which was partially covered in the sugary joy from my snack, and knew nothing ever felt so right. Even though I’ve repeatedly tried to melt things with my eyeballs I don’t have Superman’s eyes, which is why I was so confused that I could read this watch just fine. I’ve seriously had no issue reading the watch at all, although I will admit it can be difficult to see in low light situations (just avoid dark alleys which is sound advice anyways), but I’ve found 90% of the time it reads just fine.
So to anyone who is on the fence about purchasing go ahead and get it, you won’t regret it. The only thing I would change on the watch is the band, the eyelets are silver and don’t really jive with the rest of the watch’s design, but that’s really nothing to get your undies in a bundle over. Overall a solid, nice looking watch for a great price.

I’ve only had it for a few days, but this watch looks great. Love the fact I never have to worry about the battery, winding, or self-wind with motion, eco drive is such a great feature. This is my second eco drive watch. The reason I chose this model is because of the overall look and the band type. I hate scratching up my metal bands from everyday use. This will fulfill the job and look good while doing it. Only downfall is because everything is black reading the time is difficult in poor lighting conditions. But now I have an excuse for staying out later, “I thought it was still only 9 PM” 🙂

The 2 biggest advantages to having this watch are the durability and not having to change the battery.
Please don’t be fooled by the price. This is a quality watch. I was worried that this entry level Eco-Drive was gonna be a bad buy. There was a similarly styled Luminox watch that had a light feature so I could tell the time in the dark, but passed on it after I read the watch was poorly constructed. So I don’t get a light with this watch, but I did get a case that seems to take bangs and dings from moving furniture, riding motorcycles, hiking or just being a plain clutz. The glass, or crystal over the dial is great too. More than once I’ve hit my wrist and panicked that my watch would now have some permanent white streak on the glass or silver metal exposed where the black paint had been scraped off the case but it hasn’t. The case has taken a few good bangs and it does show, but it stays black. The white streaks on the crystal have been able to be removed with my nail and brought back to the original state.
Having an light powered eco drive, lets you impress people with technology aspect. More importantly, you never have to change the battery. I have more than once had a battery changed on a watch and then had to have the watch replaced because the knuckle head tech didn’t tighten the case correectly and moisture got into my watch. I’m happy to know I don’t have to worry about this anymore.
Seriously, the watch looks great and will get you compliments as I’ve received them in Boston, MA, and all the way to Portland, OR. More importantly based on my going on 2 years of everyday use, it’s a durable, quality watch that shoud preserve it’s orignal look and get compliments for a long time once you own it.

Very nice watch, a bit hard to read , and the luminescence doesn’t last very long in the dark~!
Light to wear, and like the cloth band!

Most of the pictures show it here in very bright light. In low light, you can’t see a thing. It’s black on black. Very black.
The watch looks cool and young and hip. My friend was saying I should keep it to make myself look young and cool. I was like “How cool am I going to look when every time I want to check my watch I have to ask someone younger to read the display for me?” She was like “You could use your phone” and I was like “That kind of defeats the purpose of the watch.”
So I exchanged this for the white one, which looks less cool, but I won’t feel a thousand years old squinting at it.

Impossible to read in dim/dark conditions. The Ecotech technology is fine so far, which is what we bought it for. The 1st Citizen ecotech has been running great for 8 yrs. The watch face is VERY wide, a little uncomfortable doing certain tasks, but a nice casual watch, just wish I could read it better, 1st watch has a white dial and dark hands, very easy to see in low light conditions, just by their positions. We were hopeful that with luminescent hands this would be also.

I received the Men’s Citizen EcoDrive Black Ion-Plated Watch as a Christmas gift. The watch is part of Citizen’s EcoDrive line, which use both natural and artificial light to charge the watch, eliminating the need for a battery or winding mechanism. The EcoDrive is designed for men who want a stylish, inexpensive watch that can be worn daily. When evaluating a watch there are three things I consider; durability, style and comfort.
First and foremost, the watch is extremely durable. The nylon band is tough and resists fraying and fading. The face of the watch is encased with a strong, scratch resistant glass crystal that has taken a few good knocks on door frames without leaving even the smallest mark. The clasp and buckle are the only possible limitations on the watch’s durability. Although they seem to be to lightweight compared to the rest of the watch, neither the buckle nor the clasp have yet to break.
Not only is the watch durable but it has a simple design perfect for everyday wear. The Black Canvas strap has a very utilitarian design without feeling like army surplus wear. The all black case, lug and dial combination create a very modern, minimalist look. In addition to the case and dial, the hands and crown are also black. The crown is also textured with an almost studded design to it. Although I appreciate the usability of the larger crown, from a style standpoint it distracts from the simplicity of the watch’s design. Likewise, the eyelets and buckle are an area of questionable design. The buckle and eyelets are steel instead of black to match the rest of the watch, however since both are positioned on the underside of the wrist they are mostly unseen.
Even if a watch is durable and stylish, if it’s uncomfortable to wear then it won’t be suitable as a daily wear watch. Citizen EcoDrive however, is durable, stylish and comfortable. The nylon band is thick and padded. It is textured enough that it doesn’t slide around on your wrist without having to keep the band overly tight. The buckle is smooth and goes almost unnoticed once the watch is on your wrist. The band is large enough to accommodate larger wrist sizes without feeling awkward or small.
Overall the watch is a great buy. It is durable, comfortable and features an all-black, minimalist style great for everyday wear.

Real pretty but I sent it back. The watch is completely black, a statement piece, but hard to tell time on. There must be adequate lighting or forget about reading it! The description says luminous hands, they’re not. If they were I would have kept this gorgeous time-piece. It’s really a cool watch just to have, but just not practical for daily wear.
