I bought this watch for my teenage son, who has a love of watches and needed a quality dress or daily wear watch. A knowledgeable friend suggested the Orient brand and we settled on this one. I was shocked when it showed up – it arrived in a beautiful and sturdy blue presentation box. My goal was to get a solid, reliable, and good looking watch that could survive and active teenager and last for a long time, all without spending ghastly amounts of money. I would say ‘Mission Accomplished.’ My son loves it and hardly takes it off.
Pros:
– Excellent build quality.
– Looks amazing and is easy to adjust the band/clasp.
– An excellent value – you get a lot of watch for the money.
– Not too bad to adjust and set up.
– Sapphire crown
Cons:
– The knob for winding/adjustment/etc. is a little tight and hard to screw down, but I expect it will loosen up with use.
– Has a dive-style dial ring around the face, but really is not suitable for dive work.
Overall: nice watch and great value.

I am writing this review for the Kamasu itself, but also for my experience with my first mechanical watch, as I imagine it will be for many people who buy this watch.
I think the watch looks great; the dial, hands, crown, and wristband are all stylish yet understated, which is a quality I think a lot of men look for when buying jewelry. It has its own style to it, and it adequately differentiates itself from a lot of the Rolex clones you see. I especially like the red dial on my version. At first glance looking at pictures of it online, it may seem a bit loud, ostentatious or difficult to work into the rest of your wardrobe, but the hue of red is much closer to a subtle burgundy with only a dull shine in real life (which I like). It is also nicely textured if you look at it closely. My only aesthetic criticism is with the bezel. It is ribbed along the rim which catches the light and makes it look a little frillier and fancier than I think it needs to.
As for the mechanical aspect of the watch, for me, it is a bit of a mixed bag. I really like the fact that there are no batteries or tiny electric motors, and that the watch runs simply on stored potential energy released carefully through mechanical advantage. It also winds itself if you wear it every day, which is very convenient. I also like the weight of it. It has a satisfying heft to it unlike many quartz watches, but I will say it’s weight does make it hard to forget that it is there.
Functionally, it is also not perfect. I am perfectly aware that accuracy is not a strong suit of mechanical watches, but mine gains about 10 seconds a day. This is well within the margin of error advertised for this watch, but I do enjoy my watch ticking over to the next minute at the exact time it is supposed to (like a nice quartz or digital watch). If I wanted that with this watch, I would have to set it every day, and it runs a minute fast for every six days I do not reset the time. I do really like the day-date feature, but I will say I had some trouble getting it to work correctly, although I honestly chock that up to my own ignorance and impatience. The rotating bezel is also cool if you need a quick stopwatch or timer, but, again, I could do without it if it meant the bezel was smooth (it’s ribbed so that you can grip it).
I haven’t exactly tested its waterproof capabilities besides washing my hands while wearing it, but honestly, I don’t really think I would want to. The crown screws down into place against rubber gaskets that seal the inside, but it doesn’t really seem worth it to me to risk if, for instance, I didn’t screw the crown down all the way. The luminescence on the hands and hour marks is cool, but the glow fades quickly once it’s been in the dark for a bit.
All things considered, I am very happy with my purchase. I would definitely recommend this one over the Orient Kanno, as that one is a little too big for my wrist (I would say I am a very medium sized man), and it has a mineral crystal instead of sapphire, like this one.

Full disclosure before writing – even though I consider myself a budding watch enthusiast, I don’t have a watch collection or any other dive watches to compare this one to. In fact, this was the very first watch that I decided to purchase after doing my own research. And so I will mostly be talking about how the watch is like on its own merits instead of comparing it to other watches simply because I don’t have much other watches to compare it to.
A little context, I own/have owned:
1) A cheap Casio quartz watch that I used during high school (I am an undergraduate student right now);
2) An Apple Watch;
3) A Longines automatic dress watch that was gifted to me from my relatives.
I knew I wanted to get a dive watch because I consider it a really versatile design, and I don’t mean versatility in the spirit of the Apple Watch, which I would be comfortable wearing in both casual and formalwear, but at the end of the day is a downsized phone on your wrist. Why wear an Apple Watch when you can wear a classy watch?
This Orient Kamasu dive watch exceeded my best expectations and I’m really satisfied with my purchase, and I encourage anyone else out there who needs a dive watch or just wants a non-expensive watch that really delivers value to consider buying an Orient Kamasu. I think the value you get from this watch is amazing.
First off, it looks fantastic, both up-close and from a distance. I think that’s mostly emblematic of all dive watches, though. If superficial looks was my only concern, then I would’ve just gotten an Invicta. I know it’s a hideous thought for many, but Invictas do look (big emphasis on “look”) fantastic for a cheap price.
However, I really like how well it is performing so far. I estimate that in a 24 hour period, my watch gained about 2 seconds, which is well within what I hope for with an automatic watch, and is notably better than my Longines watch. I am not an expert on the different automatic/mechanical movements of the world, but I did notice that the automatic movements for Orient watches are produced in-house. I’ve always thought it was kind of weird that a lot of high-end Swiss watches all use the same ETA movement, so I appreciate that Orient is not outsourcing their movement technology to another company. Nothing against the ETA movement, of course – it is a fantastic technology.
There are other characteristics that I like as well, such as how it glows quite well in the dark (though occasionally, it “glows” in the daylight and that makes the watch dial look a bit weird with all the “teeth” appearing yellow instead of white), how it uses a synthetic sapphire for the crystal (a step up from cheaper Orient dive watches using mineral), and how there’s a nice, functional day/date complication.
But what really drives home the deal for me is how I’m able to get all of this for a really affordable price. Performance and feature-wise, this Orient Kamasu punches far beyond what its price point would suggest. I believe that with both Orient and Seiko (both are part of the same parent company but are functionally independent), you really get excellent value for your money. As an undergraduate student, I do not think it’s a prudent financial choice to spend my money on luxury Swiss watches, though I hope to start a respectable watch collection in the future. I think this Orient Kamasu is an excellent place to start, and I have no doubt I will be wearing it many years into the future.
I cannot comment on the waterproofing aspect of the watch as I don’t really swim nor dive and I do find the stainless steel bracelet a bit boring, but I don’t have much to complain about it either. All in all, I would highly recommend buying this piece, especially if this is your first dive watch.

I’m in the UK and the watch was sent from Amazon USA in just six days, and for us this red dial version is not available from many places.
For my 7″ inch wrist I needed to remove 2 links. The bracelet uses cotter pins, and I replaced the existing pins with new ones when I resized it.
The dial is amazing in sunlight, and I’m getting good accuracy from it at roughly plus seven seconds per day. The lume shot is how it looks when you come indoors on a sunny day.

Great watch. Keeps time well. Perfect size. Not ostentatious. Great value for the quality. Great for daily wear

The blue sunburst dial is really eye catching, changing from almost black to a royal blue depending on how the light hits it. The applied indices are nicely done with the facets reflecting light along with the polished hands. Surprisingly wears smallish, not overly large which for me is a bonus (7.25 inch wrists). The uni-directional bezel has a nice firm feel with no slop in the movement. Overall a really nice look, not too flashy, just a nice, subtle diver that is nicely finished, with a sapphire crystal that I don’t find overly reflective.
The indices have a decent amount of Lume applied and look distinctive while still conforming to a traditional diver. Sans Arabic numerals I think gives it a tad more formal appearance, making it even more versatile. The polished second and minute hands reach out to the minute track allowing for easy tracking, and have a shape that fits with the overall design. The silver framing of the day / date box is a nice little accent.
The bezel has Arabic numerals at the 10 minute marks, with the 0 pip having a bit of recessed Lume applied. The bezel lines up remarkably well for a watch in this price range. Lots of knurling on the bezel allows for easy movement. The blue on the bezel is a matt finish which works well.
The rubber strap is comfortable with an interesting band catch, a nice little touch. Looks good on the watch and suites the style overall. May also get a NATO strap which I think would fit the style.
The screw down crown takes a bit of futzing to unseat (very pronounced crown guards), and would recommend taking the watch off to adjust. A bit of wobble in the crown when loosened, but nothing dramatic. The pull stops on the crown are not overly distinctive, and for me at least takes a couple of tries to find the day / date position. The hacking feature is handy and works as advertised. There is a bit of ‘roughness’ in the manual winding, but hopefully won’t have to use that too often.
Overall extremely happy with the purchase, automatic movement, sapphire crystal, nicely finished, 20 bar WR, beautiful sunburst dial, excellent size, all for a very reasonable price – very good value.

It’s even more beautiful than the photo shows!! I’ve read reviews that said the Crown was difficult to wind and tighten up…. I found no issues with it at all!! Extremely comfortable band….. I prefer the rubber on my wrist and very attractive and affordable!! The Lumen’s are incredible and very bright green!! I can’t recommend this watch enough!! I collect watches and own many Orients and for the price it’s well worth it!! JUST BUY IT!!
